The Shops at Maritime Way

The island shop for Cape Fear Distillery: free tastings and bottles of its vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, tequilas, and rum creams, plus art and gifts, on Maritime Way.

Cape Fear Distillery full facade with staircase and rocker

Cape Fear Distillery makes its spirits in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, and this shop on Maritime Way, opened in 2025, is its island outpost. Nothing is distilled here: it’s a tasting counter, bottle shop, and small gallery, in the same building as Bald Head Bottle. Founder Alex Munroe, a Bald Head homeowner since 1994, has pointed out that the island never had an ABC store, so this is the place to buy a bottle of spirits without a trip to the mainland.

Tastings are free. The lineup runs from GameFish Vodka and Maritime Gin to Frying Pan Shoals Bourbon, the BillFish tequilas, and the Beach Blast rum creams; the coconut is the island best-seller. The walls carry art for sale, from Henry Diltz prints and Dr. Seuss art to work by local artist Ken White.
