Merchant's Row

Framed historic maps and nautical charts, from early North Carolina maps to 1850s Cape Fear coast surveys, in a small Merchant's Row shop run by longtime islanders.

Antique Maps & More is a small shop in the Merchant’s Row offices, opened in 2017 by Wendy Wilmot and her husband, Andy Sayre, who spent two years sailing their sloop through the Bahamas before settling on Bald Head in 1995. The walls hold framed historic maps from America and Europe, and the local pieces are the draw: early maps of North Carolina and 1850s U.S. Coast Survey charts of the Cape Fear River, Frying Pan Shoals, and the river’s entrances.

For a lighter souvenir, the shop also hands out free scavenger hunt maps, nature maps, and an island map.

What you'll find

  • Framed historic maps of America and Europe across several centuries
  • Early North Carolina maps, including a 1796 state map and Thomas Bradford's 1846 edition
  • U.S. Coast Survey charts from the 1850s: the Cape Fear River, Frying Pan Shoals, and Beaufort Harbor
  • Nautical charts
  • Free scavenger hunt maps, nature maps, and an island map

Good to know

  • The shop shares the Merchant's Row offices with Munroe Properties, where Wendy Wilmot is a broker, and the phone number is Munroe's main line.
